Chat with Sugar Glider in One Command

The fastest way to try the i14 API is to chat with it in Pi, a terminal AI assistant. One command installs Pi if you need it, connects it to i14 with your API key, and opens the chat.

You need to create an i14 API key at platform.i14.ai. i14 sent you an email that explains how to create your key. If you did not get one, you can join the waitlist. See Get your API key. Pi needs Node.js 22.19 or newer. If you do not have it, the command offers to install it for you.

Paste this into your terminal:

curl -fsSL https://i14.ai/docs/install.sh | sh

When it asks What is your i14 API key?, paste your key and press Enter. The key stays hidden: nothing shows on screen while you paste or type it. The key never lands in your shell history. Pi then opens on i14-sugarglider-nemotron3-super-120B-v1, ready for your first message.

Pi works in a folder named i14-playground in your home folder. The command creates it if it is missing. Every file Pi writes is saved there. To open the folder, run:

open ~/i14-playground

On Linux, open ~/i14-playground in your file manager.

Start Pi on the i14 model at any time. Start it in the i14-playground folder, so your files stay there:

cd ~/i14-playground && pi --model i14/i14-sugarglider-nemotron3-super-120B-v1

If your terminal says pi: command not found, open a new terminal and run the command again. Or run Pi by its full path in place of pi. The setup shows this path in its “Next time, run” line, for example ~/.pi/agent/bin/pi.

To pass your key without the prompt, for example on a remote machine, set I14_API_KEY first.

Run these commands in bash or zsh. read -rs keeps the key out of your shell history. When you run it, paste your key and press Enter (nothing is shown while you type):

read -rs I14_API_KEY && export I14_API_KEY
curl -fsSL https://i14.ai/docs/install.sh | sh
  1. Installs Node.js and Pi if you need them (it asks first).
  2. Checks your API key and saves it, readable only by you.
  3. Adds i14 to Pi and starts a chat in ~/i14-playground.
